The 2017 season opened for the Roosevelt Boys Golf Team on Thursday, August 18th as the Riders hosted the 2nd Annual Rider Golf Tournament at Waveland Golf Course in Des Moines. The Riders finished in 2nd place, 15 strokes behind the winning team from Pleasant Valley. Cooper Craiger was the individual tournament medalist shooting a 69 in winning the first individual title of his career. Fellow Rider Burke Pitz finished 4th with a 76 on the par 72 historic Des Moines golf course.

Coach Derek Schultz commented: "I am very pleased with how Cooper played today. He got himself intoa groove and was able to maintain it the whole round. After looking at scores, we had nine stroke lead over PV after the first nine holes. There were able to put four scores together and shoot a -1 as a team on the back nine. That is a hard score to come back on and we didn't maintain our game after the front. Our focus needs to be positive and the boys need to be able to look ahead at the good things that can happen rather than focusing on the bad holes they had. We are a young team and they will only improve with experience".
