Friday night saw the Rider Girls basketball team get back on the winning track. The Riders squared up against Metro rival Lincoln at the Roundhouse and came away with a 41-37 victory. The Riders benefitted greatly from the return of point guard and leader Sanaa Smith who led all scorers with 14 points. The game was back and forth all night and came down to the final minute. Riders Sophomore Asantee Tillman got a huge steal and sank two free throws to put the game away.
“The girls executed the game plan well tonight and were able to make great adjustments. There were many young players on the court in the late game pressure situation and they handled themselves maturely. I was proud of the way Sanaa Smith came back strong tonight. After an injury, it’s easy to play scared, but she stepped up and hit many free throws and broke the press with ease. Maya Williams handled herself with poise this game. Alesha Henderson attacked the basket well. And Asantee Tillman held more than her own tonight. The girls needed this win and they went out and got it,” said Schoneberg.
