The 2018 Girls Track and Field season got off to a rocky start due to poor weather. Despite cold temperatures and meet cancellations, the girls are heating up the track as they head into the busy part of the season and Qualification for the first major test, the Drake Relays. The team hit the track running at the Waukee Early Bird Meet on 3/27 and the Waukee Quadrangular meet on 4/5. The 4x800m relay quartet of Izzy Buchanan, Anna Gilbreath, Brennan Drake, and Megan Fleming ran a time of 9:55.66 which was ranked 11th in the state. Next the Riders competed at the Gary DouBrava Invite at Urbandale High School. Halley Brocker won the Varsity High Jump with a season best of 5-0.00; Esther Ubadigbo ran a season best of 15.62 in the 100mH and is currently 12th in the state. The team came in 3rd overall in the team competition. The Riders were again on the track at the Waukee Relays. Megan Fleming ran the 800m in 2:19.37 a personal best and ranked her 12th in the state and Izzy Buchanan ran a personal best in 1500m of 4:59.84 which ranked her 19th in the state. Ava Denner rounded out the personal best with a jump of 16-01.00. The Riders were last on the track at the Jim Duea Invite in Ames and had a great showing on the track. Halley Brocker matched her season best of 5-0.00 in the High Jumps and the quartette of Esther Ubadigbo, Claire Chell, Kori Holman, and Megan Fleming set a season best of 4:08.34 in the 4x400m relay that ranks them 12th in the state. The Riders will next be on the track on 4/19 in the Chuck Silvey Invite at Urbandale High School and the Drake Relays on 4/26-28.
