The Roosevelt Girls Bowling Team traveled to Ottumwa to face the 2017 state champions, competed well from the very outsight, but eventually fell to the Bulldogs 2900-2358. Roosevelt had a good start to game one again with their best game one effort of the year. In game one Payton Evans fired a 197, Teagan Loew a 178 and Kylie Sly a 170. Ottumwa bowled almost 400 pins over their season average which makes them even more of serious contender to repeat as champion if they continue to do that.
Coach Steve Loew said "Ottumwa is the reigning State Champions and always a top program in the state. That being said, our girls came out and went punch for punch with them in the first game. They were not intimidated and I love that about them. Our second game woes continue and we will have to figure some things out there. Again I was very proud of the girls in the second round because there was a large scoring gap but they came out firing. In my 11 years of coaching bowling at Roosevelt I can say they set a program record with 17 clean frames in a row, including a clean game in game 2. They were feeding off each other and you could feel the energy around them. At the break, I like where we are and feel good going forward. JV also had a meet that I was very proud of as they hit every goal I placed before them...the growth is there!"
The Riders return to competition on Thursday, January 4, 2018 when they take on North.
